South by Southwest 2016 official event app personalizes experience with Eventbase

Intelligent recommendations based on personal activity and network allow you to make the most of SXSW

March 1, 2016 – Austin, Texas - South by Southwest® (SXSW®) and Eventbase have released a new recommendation engine within the SXSW GO app to tailor the experience to individual attendees. The engine, SXSW Recommends, delivers on-demand event recommendations by leveraging the collective wisdom of the SXSW community.

“Each year we work tirelessly to develop more ways to enhance the SXSW experience and make it more engaging,” said Scott Wilcox, SXSW Director of Technology. “Partnering once again with Eventbase and offering personalized recommendations to the SXSW community is yet another great opportunity to make SXSW a productive and fulfilling experience.”

The SXSW Recommends engine generates unique recommendations through an advanced algorithm by comparing an attendee’s schedule favorites to like-minded community favorites. Attendees can access their recommendations via the online schedule and SXSW GO. SXSW will also deliver recommendations with push notifications based on gaps in the attendee's schedule as well as their current location.

In 2015, SXSW and Eventbase added Around Me and Attendee Match, providing targeted networking recommendations through the SXSW GO app with the help of over 1,000 iBeacons across more than 250 official venues. This year, event personalization is further elevated by event recommendations delivered through push notifications on attendees’ mobile devices.

“SXSW is a vast, intense experience, and this year we’ve focused even more deeply on using technology to make it truly personal,” said Jeff Sinclair, co-founder and CEO of Eventbase. “With recommendations uniquely tailored to each person, we hope that attendees can spend less time planning and instead make the most of their time in Austin.”

In 2014, SXSW made its first investment in Eventbase, cementing their relationship and dedication to bringing the best event technology to the conference and festival. The SXSW GO app was the 2015 Gold Winner for Best Event App at the Event Technology Awards, and the 2014 SXSW GO app won People’s Voice Award at the Webbies.SXSW registrants can access SXSW Recommends by downloading the SXSW GO app or at schedule.sxsw.com.
